Doily Series, 8-point

Pencil on mylar
8” round
Based on my collection of family doilies, this series translates the textile process into drawings and paintings on mylar, focusing on the actions of making and marking from two different time periods – then and now. These works develop slowly, meditatively, through the build up of brush strokes and pencil marks, in the way that a doily is made, a stitch at a time. Not only do I want to capture the look of the humble cotton thread, but also pay homage to the labor, skill, and memory of the makers’ hands that came before me.
